Program and Activities

Pre-K and Kindergarten days are filled with fun and learning! From the first day of school, students participate in carefully planned activities designed to keep them engaged in the development of physical, social, and academic skills. Daily schedules include instruction in pre-reading and phonics skills, math and numbers, science, social studies, and religion, while taking into account the age of the children and their need for movement and rest. Recess and rest time are included in the program EVERY day to accommodate the needs of four and five-year-olds.

Our budding scientists show what they have learned!  Each spring a special science week is held to encourage  student learning, curiosity, and creativity in the area of science.  Boys and girls learn about famous inventors and the great things they have created.

St. Peter's Christmas Program is a school-wide special event with beautiful music and of course the Christmas story! Everyone is invited to come and learn what Christmas is really all about.

Learning at St. Peter's is fun!  In addition to regular classroom instruction in core subject areas, students participate in weekly resource classes and many special events.  Here is a list of some of the special activites our students can participate in throughout the school year:

  • Math Bee
  • Spelling Bee
  • National Handwriting Contest
  • Art Show
  • School Chorus
  • Spring Music Program
  • Christmas Program
  • Class holiday parties
  • Field trips
  • Instrumental music lessons (piano and band instruments)-after school
  • Young Engineers STEM after school program
  • Little Medical School after school program
  • Science of Art after school program

There are many, many opportunities to keep our students learning and growing!  Our students consistently scored at or above national norms on the Stanford 10, and now on Terra Nova, a nationally recognized achievement test we administered each spring in grades kindergarten through 5.  Because the Stanford was no longer be available, we began using Terra Nova to measure our students against those from across the United States. Monitoring these test scores allows us to demonstrate improvement as students move from grade to grade and build upon what they have previously learned.  Our fourth and fifth graders score significantly above grade level every year, and parents whose children leave us regardless of grade routinely report that their children are much more advanced than their new school grade-level peers.

We believe that physical activity should be a part of every student's day. In addition to physical education class (at least once a week), children have lunch recess, and classes have daily recess periods.

Literacy is crucial to learning in every subject, so reading, writing/composition, language, and handwriting are taught every day in each grade.  We offer instruction in both manuscript and cursive writing because the development and practice of handwriting skills are directly linked to the development of reading fluency.

We strive to keep our students engaged in learning through instruction and activities that spark their interest and enthusiasm. Materials are regularly updated so that we offer an academically sound and rigorous programs across all grade levels.

Another feature of our school is that we operate our own licensed before and after school program on site for the convenience of our families.  Students may arrive as early as 6:45 a.m. and stay in before care until 8:45 when regular classes open.  After care begins at dismissal and runs until 6 p.m.  Daily activities include a healthy snack, homework time, a craft/art activity, and outdoor play, weather permitting.  Our daycare director is a former teacher and principal with more than 35 years of experience working with elementary school students.  Fees for use of the before and after care program are based upon frequency of usage, and you can tailor your before and after care usage to fit your needs so that you are not being charged for times that you do not need the service.  Full year  fees are based on the required 170 school days and are prorated if you choose to use it less frequently.
